USA - Diabetes prevalent in nearly 50% of Native Americans and 21 million Americans

..The toll of the disease in the course of a day is even more startling. According to Vinicor, every 24 hours, 4,100 new diabetes cases are diagnosed in the U.S., at least 810 people die, 230 undergo amputation, 120 learn they need kidney dialysis or transplant, and 55 go blind.

“I don't think I'd be exaggerating to say that diabetes is our nation's most costly disease, both in human terms and in economic terms,” says Nathaniel Clark, MD, MS, RD, national vice president for clinical affairs for the American Diabetes Association (ADA). “We may actually see a generation of Americans that will not outlive their parents if changes are not made.”.........
