Australia - Fluoridation of drinking water

Fluoridation of drinking water
Ms Bligh said Queensland supported adding fluoride to drinking water.
She rejected claims that fluoride caused cancers and lowered the IQ of children and adults.
"The scientific data consistently proves these claims to be baseless," Ms Bligh said.
Ms Bligh said the decision to add fluoride to drinking water was made after exhaustive research and well after almost every other Australian capital city.
"The cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin and Perth fluoridated their water almost 40 years ago," she said.
"Here in Queensland, the city of Townsville started fluoridating its water in 1964."
Ms Bligh said the science about fluoridation showed it effectively tackled tooth decay.
"There is no evidence that any disease or illness or condition is more prevalent in Townsville, or Sydney or Melbourne than it is in any city without fluoride," she said.
Ms Bligh rejected a suggestion that the American Dental Association was now warning mothers not to use fluoridated water in infant formula.
"The American Dental Association has unreservedly endorsed the use of fluoride in public drinking systems," she said.

"It finds that fluoridated water is fine in making baby formula and this information is available on the American Dental Association's website."

No change of view there.

  • Read the truth produced in the best scientific information on fluoridation here: (www.fluoridealert.org). You will see a petition signed by almost 4000 professionals, including hundreds of dentists, hundreds of doctors, and other medical researchers calling on governments everywhere to stop fluoridation.

There are many large scientific studies there to show that drinking fluoridated water has no positive effect on cavity reduction and to show that it causes cancer, thyroid damage, broken hips from brittle bones, lowered IQ and other health problems.
