Another Community Ends Fluoridation
Councilors in Carl Junction, Missouri voted to end fluoridation this past week after considering a number of concerns they had regarding the effectiveness and safety of the practice.  The community, which is home to approximately 8,000 residents, started fluoridating the water supply in 2005 after voters approved the use of the additive.
Carl Junction isn’t alone in making this decision.  According to a recent article, “over the past five years, [at least] seven cities and towns in the Show-Me-State have removed fluoride from their municipal water systems, and a half-dozen more have put the matter to vote.”

Senior U.S. Senator Comments on Fluoridation
Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski was recently interviewed by a local newspaper, the Turnagain Times, and was asked her thoughts on fluoridation additives imported to the U.S. from China.  Senator Murkowski is a senior U.S. Senator and is also a member of several important committees in regard to fluoridation, including the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (she is the Chairman), the Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on Health.
When asked about the lack of oversight for fluoride additives, the Senator responded:
“Are you telling me that the EPA and the FDA don’t inspect fluoride from China?   That’s not right. We can’t even bring in prescription drugs from Canada into the United States. Why aren’t we buying fluoride from U.S. companies?  My committee is meeting with the Director of the EPA, and I will be asking why fluoride from China is not being tested by the EPA or the FDA. That’s unacceptable. No chemical should be coming into our country that is going to be put into our water, without some U.S. agency testing it.  I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but it’s a situation that needs to be addressed, and I will make sure my committee gets some answers.” (See full interview)
Senator Murkowski will be hearing from FAN, but she also needs to hear from citizens of Alaska, as well as scientific and medical professionals from around the world.  We need to ask all of our Congressional representatives to demand that the EPA does its job by prioritizing fluoride's neurotoxic impact on infant development and on childrens' IQ, as well as the thyroid as the most sensitive end point--and not dental fluorosis--in their long overdue assessment.
If you’re a constituent or professional, please call and email Senator Murkowski today.  You can also use FAN’s automated system to send a form letter to the Senator.  Feel free to share FAN’s materials, including the link to our page on fluoridation chemicals.  If you’re not a constituent or pro, then please hold off on contacting the Senator for now, we will mount a more inclusive campaign once she has heard from her voters.
April’s Teleconference & Social Media Event
This month’s International Fluoride Free Teleconference featured a discussion on using social media to engage, educate, and organize communities in opposition to fluoridation.  The call also included “the world’s first ever fluoride free social media bomb (#FluorideFree)”.  You can now download the audio and take your online fluoridation activism to the next level:
