Canada - Flouride issue before council again

Activist speaks to environment committee
LETHBRIDGE HERALD
It’s a debate that goes back to the 1970s. But once again on Thursday, city council members heard competing views on the value of fluoridated water.
Three members of council’s environment committee listened to a lengthy presentation by anti-fluoride activist Paul Connett, a retired chemistry professor from Canton, New York. Connett, co-author of a 2010 book, “The Case Against Fluoride,” was also scheduled to speak later in the day at the University of Lethbridge.
Following his presentation in council chambers, officials from Alberta Health Services entered six briefs in favour of continuing to add fluorides as a deterrent to tooth decay.
Some candidates raised fluoridation as an issue in the 2013 civic election. A subsequent study by the Citizen Society Research Lab at Lethbridge College found a majority of city residents support its use.
While close to 54 per cent wanted the city to continue with the additive, less than 37 per wanted it removed.
Seniors, upper-income residents and those who’d completed higher levels of education were most likely to approve its use in the water supply, political scientist Faron Ellis reported.
Local fluoride opponents’ vocal campaign succeeded only in generating more support for the measure as a public-health initiative, he pointed out.

“After a rigorous debate and a lot of lively rhetoric by way of the very active anti-fluoridation campaign, support has grown and opposition has weakened.”

Lots of comments including one from Steve Slott DDS in reply to JWillie

sslott says:
Don’t let “jwillie” get under your skin. He’s James Reeves, a retired civil engineer in Louisiana, who is one of Connett’s minions. In spite of his education, Jwillie can do nothing but copy/paste the same verbatim screed all over the internet. His unsubstantiated claims are so utterly ridiculous that it’s doubtful anyone gives them any credence.
Good job on seeing through Connett’s smoke and mirrors, guys!! Denver, CO recently did the same. After hearing an extensive presentation by Connett, the Denver Water Board voted unanimously to continue fluoridation in that city.

Oh dear it's the pot calling the kettle black again. Noone does more cutting and pasting of utter nonsense with vile and venomous attacks on those who dare oppose him than Dr Slott, who himself believes that there is no difference between naturally occurring calcium fluoride (CaF2) and hexafluorosilicic acid simply because they both contain the fluoride ion. Whilst it is known that fluorosilicates dissociate in water in a very complex way to form many different derivatives, Dr Slott claims that the nasty contaminants in the acid magically disappear en route to the tap, delivering the fluoride ion and nothing but the fluoride ion to the consumer. Yet he contradicts himself by admitting that fluorosilicates may reassociate in the acid PH of the stomach, suggesting that some of the original compounds must survive the journey through the waterworks.
